Are leopard geckos good pets?I think i want one but i have to read up on them before i buy one.Are they a basking lizard?also would calci sand be a good subtrate.

yea they are great pets! There'll also be a million and one caresheets on them too. Not to hard to care for at all. Happy googling lol

Good enough pets (although since everyone and their brother has one, I find them too blah). However, calci-sand is not good for them. Use paper towels, cage carpet, or slate tiles.

I wanted one forever and adopted one for a while, I was more than happy to return it when its owner came back for it! I like them but they are too boring for me at this point. I don't want to turn you away from them, but it didn't work out for me too well! Do NOT use calci-sand !!! That is the number one piece of advice I hear from everyone with lots of experience keeping these, they will eat the sand and it WILL NOT pass through it like pet-smart claims it will, just go for the reptile carpet instead !

I like them a whole lot....just got my first one last weekend......calci-sand is not a good choice from them cuz they can swallow it and become impacted.....they are real cool pets though........really got my interseted in herps.......can't wait to get a snake...........

I'd say go for it, if you have the dough look into some of the morphs.

:iagree: . They are not very active, but thats partly because they are nocturnal, but they're fun to watch eat crickets they stalk them and wiggle the tip of their tail to distract the cricket, then pounces on it, and they are some of the tamest lizards around. There are some really attractive morphs, for a small fee of course;) . Overall I think that they are a great species to begin with

if your worried about impaction just put a dish with calci powder in it and they will eat that instead of the sand

if its smaller than 5'' use a liner like news paper. impaction is the only big problem with these. mines 8'' and i use a sand called ''Reptilit''.
