what are the conditions for a leopard gecko to be kept in? is a 20g(24x16x12) good enough for it to live in for life? what kind of setup should i have? pics of your enclosures please

20 gallon is plenty room for 1 or 2 Leos. The most basic set up is paper towel substrate 2 to 3 hides, one of them should be a moist hide. Needs a warm side in the 90s and a cool side of high 70s, low 80s. I keep the moist hide in the cool side of the tank.

I will get pics of my enclosures when I get home. You can go with more complex setups. Logs and what not are always nice something for them to hide in and crawl on. They love to explore their surroundings. Every time I clean my tanks and remove the geckos they always go explore the new setup.

Also, since they heat up on their bellies a heat lamp isn't required. An Under Tank Heat or UTH is very useful. I would not suggest heat rocks since they can malfunction and overheat and cook your gecko.

thanks a lot, by UTH do you mean like a heating pad? because i have one on my 110 and my snakes love it. i think i will get 2, how do you sex them? and i heard in another forum on here that the ones with the fatest tail are better because they eat better? what will 2 3" leopard gecko's run for? they only get 6"-7" am i correct? i want to grow them instead of getting them when they are adults its funner that way.

A fatter tail usually is a sign of a healthy gecko. Young leos that are a month old or so sometimes will have a skinny tail. Depending on where you go you can get them somewhat inexpensive. Petco usually sells young ones for 19.99. Just be careful sometimes they aren't always healthy.

thanks, should i use sand for a substrate? or should i use something like sawdust, gavel, dirt, should there be any where that they can bathe or swim in or do they not do that because they are desert gecko's?

thanks a lot, should i get a humidifier for the tank? if i get a screen top, will that hold in the heat? or should i go with a glass or plastic hood?
