i was thinking of breeding one or both of these rays. what do i need to get tankwise, or pondwise? also what kind of filtration? and finally what kind of male:female stock would i need for a good size tank.
this wouldn't be a show tank, but somehting i would put in my basement. it wouldn't work outside because it's too cold.

I would get a tank or pond that is atleast 3 feet wide and start with 1 male and 2 females of each species. Filtration will depend on your setup. I like sump style filters because of the extra water volume and ease of maintenance. Get a pump that recirculates the water atleast 10 times an hour.

id go 4' wide my buddy built his 500 gallon pond for like 200$

and a trio would work in 6'x6'

No, most ray species will hybrid with each other. If you want to set up a breeding pond, keep it with one species or the other. Motoros are far easier to breed, but will also be larger in the end.

so it sounds like i could get one trio for a 4x4x2? or should it be bigger?

4*4 is to small a 6*4 is ok but a 8*4 is the best size to breed

I BIULT A 10X6X3 POND IN MY STOREWITH A 100 GALLON STOCK TANK USED AS A SUMP WITH A 3600 GPH PUMP BALL VALVED BACK INTO THE POND FOR CIRCULATION. 2X6 FRAMING POND LINER AND SKINNED THE OUTSIDE WITH THE RESIN DECK BOARDS. IT ALL COST ME ABOUT 2,000 TOTAL. AND IS AROUND 1,000 GALLONS. I HAVE 8 RAYS, 30 INCH AROWANA, AND SEVERAL; OTHER FISH TOGETHER. AND JUST GOT MY FIRST LITTER LAST WEEK. MOTOROS AND LEOS WILL GET THE SAME SIZE. BIG, VERY BIG. IT TAKES A FEW YEARS THOUGH.
