Lately one of the leopoldi females have began to turn gray/white... Anyone seen this before? She was born in 2007, and i have had her for about one year.

Parasites my friend! U can see the small white dots on the base. Prazi the tank it'll b cool! Beautiful Leo!

I understand that those white spots can look like some kind of parasite attack, but i assure you - they are not. They are pigment spots, and all my rays have them from time to time. They appear and disappear now and then... don’t know the reason for it though. (There have been treads regarding these white spots earlier).

Here is a picture of my histrix taken several days ago. As you see she also got these spots - but again, they only appear at some very few occasions. And she is not losing colorations like the leo female on the picture, neither does any of the two other leos btw… and this "phenomenon" have been present ever since i bought the rays. Conclution: I am about 100 % shure the white spots have nothing to do with the female leo turning gray.

How is her appetite? She looks fat and happy.

Is she low in the pecking order in the tank or possibly being bullied?

Have you changed any lighting or substrate recently?

It might not be a terrible idea to try the prazi if it is really bothering you, it can't hurt anything but your wallet :)

Actually i haven`t thought about that... - but the bigger WC female are in fact bulling/stressing her from time to time... some times she even take small chunks of her disk. So the fact that she is turning white/gray could absolutely be related to this - i see that now. I`ll keep an eye on her. If i find it necessary i will split them up.

(No problems with the appetite, and i have not changed substrate or lightning for a long time).

hey Proximus, from time to time my leoxmm will really lighten up, i think its just alil stress from time to time... I think leo's "show stress " more than other rays, bc I have seen my leoxmm get bullied once every so often and he will lighten up, but then next day he is dark again. how are your params? just curious!

It doesn't surprise me that her mood might be effecting her coloring

Rays seem to be very sensitive creatures. Mine will get upset with me if I change anything in the tank.

As long as she is eating and seems happy I wouldn't worry too much. She should catch up to the big girls in no time :)

Beautiful rays either way

On the few occasions that I've seen pigmentation blotches on my leos has been when the life on my carbon filters was low-feeding my drip,or when changing a large amount of water at one time.If you don't have a drip,I believe it is very important to stay on a regimented water change schedule,by doing so the difference in tank water vs. water change (freshwater) will be kept as close as possible, avoiding any shock to your ray.

Just some thoughts......
