those arent lungfish but Anaconda Swamp Eels, ask Earl(King-eL) he had a monster 1

Oh, I thought they were eels. John had them ID'd as eels last week but switched it to lungfish so I was like

Yes I agree with Hao, they are swamp eels but act more of a lungfish than an eel as they are not true eels anyway. Very cool fish to have with it's single gill hole under the trout. You need I very tight cover and with locks as mine pushed a 8lbs cover and bailed out and died. Very powerful fish and when out of water it can left itself up like a snake and move fast like a snake. Compare to it's asian cousin the common swamp eel, anaconda swanp eel are not very aggressive.

I'm getting 2 more and I'm gonna make sure it won't try to venture all over the house.

Thanks King.

You say they are less aggressive than their asian counterparts... do you think they'd get along with the normal array of monsters (Aro's, Gar, Dats, etc)?

Yep I used to kept mine with fish you listed. They actually get bullied as the bichirs like to nip on the tip of the tail.
Here was my former monster.

Very nice-looking specimen, sorry you lost em'. I love how they keep their speckles even when they're huge. Lungfish tend to fade.

I think I might end up getting one or two for my 500. My bichirs (1x ornate, 2x delhezi) are still small (4-5") so I don't think they'd bother the eels much.

Do you know their exact scientific name? Do I have it right in the thread title?

Thanks King.

Just remember that when they get big and fat they are as thick as a man's forearm. They are all muscles and that's why mine was able to lift a 8lbs of cover. Who knows it could probably lift more than that. Better put a lock on the cover for 100% security.

Do you know their exact scientific name? Do I have it right in the thread title? Sometimes I see Atinga online and other times Anguilla.

Also, King, do they prefer company of conspecifics or would I be better off with only one? I wouldn't do more than two because of their max size.

I'm asking you all these questions because there's not much online on them. Thanks.

dam Earl,i might get 1 now :)
