Do you know their exact scientific name? Do I have it right in the thread title? Sometimes I see Atinga online and other times Anguilla.

Also, King, do they prefer company of conspecifics or would I be better off with only one? I wouldn't do more than two because of their max size.

I'm asking you all these questions because there's not much online on them. Thanks.

You can keep them together if you want. I'm actually getting 2 of them.
Marbled swamp eel (Synbranchus marmoratus)

It's funny that the supplier labeled them under the genus lepidosiren which only contain one species and that's the SAL.

I kept mine in a tank of its own. But, that was because of it's large 48"+ size.
:WHOA:

That second photo is almost frightening enough to make me reconsider... lol... maybe I should just get a bowfin. I was going to order one eel and one bowfin, but I really can't see myself supporting a fish that large, even in a 500.

that is freaking awesome phil! would love to eventually keep one of those monsters...alas the present fish are enough to keep me drowning in fish busy-ness already.

Michael -

if you are considering getting YOY bowfin, i would definitely suggesting getting more than one. they are very fragile in the first months of their first year, and even with excellent care many die off for no apparent reason. the current specimen i have, which i've had for around 5 years now, was one of 9 or so that i originally received as 3" YOY fish. once you get them to around 6-8" they are relatively bulletproof. just an FYI --

Thanks for the tips as always, Solomon.

I'm probably going to grab one of John's 12" ones though, if he still has any.
