Leporinus affinis - Many-banded Headstander

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds good. The rest of the stock in the 125g includes a Red O, Mono Pbass, 2 TInfoil Barbs, 1 FM, and the big school of SD. They're all moving to a 300g tank when I move. Minus the FM. Vegetables eh? My other fish love peas. I purchased some large crickets when I was at the lfs. Maybe he'll eat some in the morning? I'll give it a shot and see. I know my O loves them. Also, I feed the tank a regular regiment of hikari gold large cichlid pellets and sinking massivore.

Btw, here's that Leporinus that I "caught" in the Amazon. He was a pretty big guy. He jumped right over my shoulder and landed in our pile of luggage in the back of the canoe. I jumped back there to dig him out and then took a quick picture and tossed him back into the river

Awesome! Thanks for showing bro! That one literally looks the same size as this guy, whom I've dubbed Thrasher. If you saw him being moved from the lfs tank or being added to my tank you'd know why!

Anyhow, mines nose area looks a bit beat up? Not sure. Here's a few shots I tried to get of him. He looks small in the pics, but he's a little over 10". We measured him in bag before we put him in tank.

I had a 7 inch one that was really great and never nipped any fins. That one died and now I have a small one and it's a major nipper, had to remove him from the tank and put him with the Tiger Oscar. Ironically, they get along great, he's the only fish Oscar will allow to be in the tank with him. I'm not sure but I think the older they get, the less nipping, at least I hope so. I would like to put him back with the other fish someday. They are awesome fish, just have a fetish for fins.

Regarding jumping, the only time I've experienced them jumping is when transferring them to the tank and they sure can jump.

I've had a few over the years and never had any nipping issues. must be the "type A personality" fish that do it. mine were all pretty laid back.
