Leporinus and Exodon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I always keep feeder guppies and rosy red minnows in the tank at all times to keep the bigger fish from fighting each other. I am not sure how many of the guppies get eaten but the minnows need replenished once in a while.

Hmm interesting, breeding your own? I feel like for a tank like that dividing it and sectioning off a group of big guppys and have em breed, but put holes big enough for smaller guys to get through to the predator side lol.. that was always my plan for a tank like that, kind of works like a minnow trap

Except the trap is filled with nasty little buggers haha

I have 2 leporinus (1x10" and 1x8") in my tank and will be adding a 3rd one (8") next week.
I keep them with large SA/CA cichlids, a RTG arowana, a couple of L´s and a flagtail in a 10x4´tank. The 2 leporinus get along fine and aren´t intimidated by most of the cichlids, but I still don´t know what will be the reaction to when the 3rd enters the tank. The RTG doesn´t bother them.

As regards you keeping 3, it may work since you have a good sized tank (220g) but the literature on the species usually says 1 alone or 5+, so there is a risk.

I don´t have experience with exodons to comment on them cohabiting, but the idea I had is that exodons require a species only tank.

I have a bunch of plastic plants floating in the tank in a big bunch. the guppies hide in them and are always having more babies.
