My LFS recently has recieved a bunch of Leporinus Fasciatus, ive never delt with them before but they look interesting. Anyone have some hands on knowledge about these guys?

thanks!

If those are the long striped fish they're super mean & get to a foot long. I remember someone saying they had to get rid of theirs because it beat their Oscar up.

They are eating monsters and grow very fast. They also bullied most of my other fish. Mine got killed in a tank transfer after two years and I was almost relieved it happened. You can do better if you want a larger fish.

Once they get past the 6-8 inch range they mellow. Not that bad of fish if you have the room.

thats so strange, ive been reading that they are very gentle fish. thats why i ask MFK! :D

does anyone have a good suggestion for a cool fish that can live its life in a 55G, that isnt small (4-5inch or less)

thanks!

first off, I totally agree that leporinus get too damn big, and too damn mean . . . they are a really attractive fish, great colors, a lot of personality, but overall just too much trouble

I would suggest you try loaches, either a school of clown loaches or yo-yo loaches . . . get 4 or 5 of these and you'll definitey have something to watch . . .

for 55G, I would lean towards yo-yo loaches, since they don't get as big as clowns

I don't know how many of these people have actually had one, but mine is peaceful unless my fronts bug him. He's about 11.5''
