just wondering theres a fish called lepornius something, it's from south america with black stripes on an orange body. i jus wanted to know how much do they usually sell for, a 3 incher. and are they aggressive toward other tankmates?

Pencil fish... Sometimes they can be very aggressive. It seems like once they start they never stop...lol

They have rabbit like teeth that can do damage to some fish.

they are fairly cheap at pets mart 5.99 i think

Don't get me wrong though they are cool fish. I have had one 3 years and is now about 6-7" long. I have him in a tank with a Red Devil and a couple of Jacks and he holds his own.

Leporinus fasciatus, aka banded leporinus:

http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/speciesSummary.php?ID=5352&genusname=Leporinus&speciesname=fasciatus

Incidentally, I have never heard Leporinus fasciatus referred to as "pencilfish." That moniker is usually reserved for the small characoids of the genus Nannostomus.

I have also heard them called "head-standers" because they always stand on there head and clean your gravel and decorations.

They can get up to a good 12 inches (I've seen one that big with my own eyes). I've heard they can be dominant, and I'm pretty sure they'll need something bigger than a 75g when fully grown.

:iagree: Leporinus and headstanders fall under the genus Anostomids.:)

DUDE MAN, DO NOT GET THAT FISH!!! ITS AGRESSIVE AS HELL!, IF IT HAD THE CHANCE IT WOULD TRY TO KILL EVERYTHING THATS SMALLER AND WEAKER THAN IT. lol I had experince with that fish.... about 6-7 inches... couldnt stand it, it was fighting with my jardini so i got rid of it. trust me man, i should have got a clown loach with the money i used to buy that instead, i regret it now...

I concur with the previous comments. Leporinus can be very aggressive. Not quite as bad as Distichodus, but bad!
