I have never built one by myself but I did help a guy build them, and at frist I never thought it would hold water, and it did, then I thought well it will leak in a few days, and it didn't. I was shocked. I asked the guy how did he learn all this, and he said from experience. he said the frist tank he ever built is long gone in the scrap pile. he told me that none of the wood was striaght when he cut it, even using a sraight edge to guide the saw. it held water for the time he had it, but he said that he never trusted it... so he built a new one, and threw away the old one... he said what he learned was he order the lumber from a lumber mill, pre-cut to size, and paid a little extra for it, he said not much for perfection. then he built a jig to hold 3 sides of the tank together for drilling and gluing. this way he said that everything is squared and there are no stress's in any of the sides or corner's.. and basically that was it. he didn't go into much detail on the rest.. and he made it look really easy. I have yet to build one from beginning to end on my own, but I'm going to after I settle in from a move. I'll post it on here so everyone can see it.. just looking for a glass supplier locally...
