So i've heard about how these fish reach about 50" or so and can weight about 100 lbs, but let's see how big most get (or are allowed to) in captivity. Thanks.

Most don't get big in captivity, they die.

Yes sadly because some people are really dumb and buy a fish that gets over four foot for a 10 gallon....:(

My pet shop has the Tiger shovelnose and Red Tail cat hybrids. I bet these get large also.

Larger than the original mom and dad. I have heard up to 6'!!!

thanks, but no pics? :)

A few people keep them and im sure the bigger ones are about 2-3 ft on here, but to be honest, they don't stunt, they just die.

Heres some pics of my classroom tank "im a teacher". The hybrid was left in a bucket at the LFS i deal with over the weekend and was in pretty rough shape at 5". He was FREE, and the RTC was rescued from another LFS with severe ich for $5.00 at about 2" .He had no whiskers and one gill was curled. Both fish are doing fine and are about 10-12" . The other cat is a shark aquarium special for $20.00 that is very active and got the other two swimming all the time . They all live in a 150 wide with a few tinfoil barbs and a black shark. I feed em a few smelts/shrimp 2-3 times a week. They grow about an inch a month. We do weekly waterchanges of about 50 gallons and that keeps everyone happy. Our last "shop cat" was a super cool 32" RTC named Fred . A weekend power outage ended his life. I'll tell ya..... RTC's love people. Our last guy was the biggest ham i've ever seen. He did more tricks than my dog :D
