That hasn't stopped blood parrots from being continuously bred and sold everywhere. Novelty has little to do with aesthetics.

If anyone could bring N. ramsdeni into the states they would go for unreal prices.

It's in the works actually. You MIGHT see them in the next year in the hobby. Heard from my inside sources.

I just want some freaking tomocichla already. Not sieboldii.

Ex-Cichlasoma adspersum was described in 1862, it comes from Barbados. According to Ad Koning's book it may or may not be synonymous with N. tetracanthus...

Just to add a bit of information, Nandopsis tetracanthus has a tremendous variation in Cuba and several subspecies have been erected for this fish (cinctus, griseus, latus, torralbasi). You would not believe the variation between N. tetracanthus. They could be probably regarded as different species. So speciation is taking place in those islands and I would not be surprised N. vombergei is safe and sound and there may even be more different fish in la Hispaniola.

What about this statement, I'd still like to see some unbelievable variations between Tetracanthus. All the ones I've seen look the same.

I've read the Adspersum is a synonym of Tetracanthus....maybe one of the variations? I can't find a picture of it.

It is thought there were endemic cichlids at one time on Puerto Rico and Barbados, but were wiped out. There are introduced Tilapia, and rumors of introduced managuense now in Puerto Rico, and many introductions in Hawaii.
The last time I heard of N. ramsdeni for sale,they were $500 each.
