Let there be....300 Gallon 's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have two FX5's on a 150G tank... and they do work well... only thing that they dont do that a sump would is surface skim... so i end up with a lot of crap on the top.

I would definately try for a sump or some sort of surface skimmer in a 300G if it were mine, but in all honesty after all youve done already it dosent look possible at this point.

Either way itll be great though... hope you are near a drain, tap and are bloody good at lifting buckets ;)

Thanks everyone. It was fun to make this stand and canopy.
First time I got to use my tools I got last Christmas.
After it was all said and done, the stand and canopy cost me $375.00.
Add in a few sore fingers and a lot of curse words.;)
I like the way it turned out. I think it will be real nice once some stain/paint is added.
Man, I know that the pool filter sand I got is DIRTY!!!!
I washed that stuff in a 5 gallon bucket over and over again.
And my tank is still cloudy. My emperor 400 is going to be working overtime to clear that mess up.

Here is a few shots of the split canopy (two pieces so I dont need help removing it) and all my driftwood I bought right here on MFK.
Thanks everyone.
More soon....I hope.

the detail and effort you put into building that stand and canopy is impecable!!

Tomorrow I am putting in an order for the rest of my tank stuff.
Right now I have....

3- 250 watt Stealth Heaters
2- Emperor 400's with those aftermarket bio inserts
2- Tetra air pumps rated for 100 gallon tanks

I am ordering....

1- Mag float glass cleaner (Large)
2- Aquaclear 70 powerheads

Now, the big gun.
I need a large canister filter. My choices are...

Fluval FX5
Eheim 2080 Pro III
Eheim 2260

Which one will get the job done.

Definitely get the 2260! For such a large tank you should have a lot of bio filtration, and 2260 will give you a lot of workable volume where you can add bio media of your choice.

If you don't have the mechanical filtration, you can add FX5.

If you're adding a canister you could get an inline heater for it and do away with one of the stealth heaters (less junk in the tank to hide). ;)

Well, I got the tank filled and some of the driftwood in.
The Emp 400's are doing a good job clearing the tank.
Hopefully, I can find a good background tomorrow at the
LFS so I can get it on and all my HOB stuff finished.

One more update pic.
