Sorry my friend I've actually learned this lesson already and I've also learned that EVEN WITH a lid you can lose them. My 14" Endli built up enough steam to push up the glass lid on his tank and get out...whoops.
At this point I not only use tight-fitting gap free lids but I also keep the water level about 6 inches below the rim of the tank. HIGHLY suggest others do this as well!
