Lets hear your fish keeping related injuries

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was doing a water change on my fathers old saltwater tank. I dripped water down onto the electrical cords. A few moments later, I heard a popping sound and looked around. I then saw black smoke rising out of the sockets. Without thinking, and with saltwater on my hands, I grabbed the cord to yank it out of the wall. I fell to the ground and couldnt feel anything for about a half hour.

Dont know why I did this one either, but I taught my oscars to hand feed. Only problem is that they cant seem to find a difference between a hand and a pellet. Now I cant do anything in the tank without them drawing blood

You know those super-magnetic tank cleaner blocks?

I'd highly advise against letting them slam together on the skin of your finger. Especially with the largest one they make.

My finger was bloody and gross for a month.

Also, not sure if this is an injury really, but I accidentally splashed some tank water in my eye and my eyelid got like, weirdly puffy for a few days. And I'm fairly sure that I've made myself ill by eating food around my tank stuff or after having done something tank related and not washing my hands well enough.

Various bruises and abrasions about the head from scratching my head and/or beating my head against the wall when I find out for the umpteenth time that the Cichlids that I purchased and were promised by my LFS are compatible are in fact not compatible with my current Cichlid tank setup for compatibility/tank size/water parameters/diet/etc reasons; or when I post about a potential purchase and am told by 15 people that it will positively work, only to find when I bring it home that 15 other people have said that it will positively not work. etc etc etc.

Dude, I could drink my water and not get sick.

I can and have drank my water without illness.

when it comes to things I am a dummy so I most always hurt myself. I have shocked myself a few times, been bit by all my O's, and countless scratches from the hobby. One of my favorites is during feeding in LFS. I seem to be allergic to something in the frozen food mix and my eyes itch like hell for at least two hours after feeding. My skin also reacts to saltwater which is a pain in the glass while cleaning the saltwater and reef side of the store.

I am waiting for the day my O bites me and draws blood. I kinda want the scar.

Its pretty funny to see the reaction of people when you claim that the new scar is from your pet fish

My husband and I where installing the tank of our 175 bowfront on its stand and my index finger got SMASHED and I yanked it out. It hurt Sooooooo bad I thought I was gonna pass out. No blood but my finger tip was numb for 2 months. I also got dorsal finned and sliced up really bad changing tanks on my 16 in pbass.
