Dwarf Gators?

This is one of those unknown knowns that occur when dealing with living things in person - Once you leave the show, you're pretty much on your own........

Look at it from a Vendors perspective - You bring a healthy animal to a show, sell it, and it's dead a day later - There are about a million and one ways to kill an animal in that time frame, that have nothing to do with the vendor.......

It all comes down to the individuals terms of service, and usually when you deal in person, there are none..........I've been on both sides, and whenever I end up with someting dead, I suck it up and move on. I've had people cook animals in there Cars, then try to bring them back telling me it was my fault, along with a myriad of other excuses as to why they killed whatever they bought an hour earlier.......

Sometimes things just die......If it looked healthy at the show, then who knows? If it didn't look healthy, then you made a gamble and lost........Any herper that's done this for more than a few years has been in that position........

At the end of the day, these are living animals we deal with, and nothing is ever guaranteed in the game of life.......
Totally agree! One the good and money changed hand in face-to-face deal, deal's over.

What was the water temp? This particular Paleosuchus species doesn't do well when added to a tank containing warm water. It could have also been suffering from a bacterial infection which isn't uncommon.
What? All my sources say that both Paleosuchus need water temps in the 80s to stay well:confused: Am I missing something?
But dwarf gators? There are chinese aligators which are a great species to have, smaller then american gators, cold hardy (even to very expensive) and are available in Europe, know already several guys in Spain that have a hand full. Is that what your talking about?

From talking to people I know who have successfully kept this species, 80 F. is about as high as you'd want to go in captivity. This species inhabits fast moving, turbid streams and rivers. They can take cooler temps then other Caiman species and they can stress if you keep them in "bath water" temperatures. As long as you have the proper basking temperature they can thermoregulate just fine in 75-77 F. water.

body temp wise this species is actually kept best right around low to mid 70s, VF is right

While i do realize many are that way , other vendors have a TOs covering such things ,its usually best to ask b4 the purchase . I also bought some animals over the week end and have the email, address and Phone # of the seller incase something comes up .I do hope the seller does something over this unless the the death occurred 100% because of the buyer. just my 2 cents .

wow, that stinks. Whatever it is i agree with LP. Once they are a few months old they are just so much stronger so why take the risk when spending the money. How much did oyu get him for?

i disagree, it doesnt matter if its face to face or not. you should back you animals. no matter what. i could understand a week or a few days. but 12 hours later.... thats all him
but im buying the dwarf gator and i will confront that guy face to face at the next show.
the guy with the dwarf gators is a good guy, his family raises gators. what he does is picks out the smallest of each clutch and holds them back for breeding to make smaller gators. his group now only gets about 4-6 ft. it basically like human selection instead of natural selection. like a wierd attempt at controlling evolution

yea this i was unaware of at the time. i paid 150 for him

maybe you should have asked if there is any guarantee. I'm sure the answer would have been no though. especially since he gave a wrong email. plus wiating until the next show will just mean all that time passed that it could have died so then again i dont see anything getting done about it.

I think that is a chance you take at buying from conventions. yes they are cheaper but that is because they are not a store so if they dont want to they dont have to offer a guarantee. at any convention you will have good breeders and bad breeders. thats why you should get on their website and check out the vendor list and see who is good and who is not.
sorry about your loss though. good luck on the next one.

yea normally i do alot of research on stuff and breeders but i have to admit i was not planning on buying one at this show. i was planing on getting one soon but that was a spur of the moment thing
