Oh I almost forgot where can I find info on my cichlasoma amazonarum? I know nothing on him/her and would like to know everything about it! When I bought it I was told the fish was a black belt. I went back to my LFS a week later because it didnt look like a black belt I asked for the latin name and they gave me cichlasoma amazonarum. I was bumbed but I got attached to the little guy/girl and I'm glad I didnt return em.

we need a better SIDE profile of the GT...and some vent pics of the oscars might help.

ok this is what I could get tonight just a side view of the gt
sidelucky.jpg

he/she doesen't like his/her pic taken! Vent pics? What are those?

ok i'd say the GT is female...vent pics are a picture of the fish's genitles so we can tell thesex and that is the only way to tell the sex of an oscar

I think your LFS was bluffing you with the cichlasome amazonarum name. Cichlasoma was once a catch-all genus for new world cichlid species and is now defunct. Your fish looks like some sort of vieja/paratheps species (I can't ID specifically), which makes amazonarum bs because vieja's and paratheps are from Central America while the Amazon River in a South America. The only name I can think of that sounds anything like Cichlasoma amazonarum is Vieja (now Paratheps, but you will get more results searching for Vieja) zonatum.

Your fish is not C. amazonorum. It is Vieja synspilum.

The jacks both look like females to me. Give them some time though, they're still quite small.

I also concur about your C. "amazonium" being a P. synspilium.
