I keep finding myself wanting just one more tank. There's an element of control there -- everyone knows it. We get to control what that tank looks like, what goes in it, what components we use -- and we've created our own micro-habitat -- our own little world. It's like if we could choose what people we see everyday. But we can't, so we create little mini-worlds. And it's an art. WE know how much work it is, how much goes into a well-designed, well-stocked, healthy tank. You get to see the product of your work every day, and be encouraged by it. In a world where so many people push paper or talk on the phone for a job, never actually seeing or touching who they affect, it's nice to have a hands-on, real-life experience with something that matters to you. I can't call it a hobby. It's definitely something more than that. It's not something that people know about you, unless you tell them. Fishkeeping is something confined to the home, and it becomes part of your home and your life, and no one really understands until they SEE your RTC or your gars what you're talking about. That's okay, though, because Fishkeepers don't get into fishkeeping so that they are really recognized for it, like people who work on motorcycles, or golf, or buy fancy clothes and spend a lot of money at the hairdresser. They do for internal, personal fulfillment. Also, because I'm female, and women can be MFK'ers too. And I'm done being sappy. Good thread, OP, but it made me sappy.
