No, it wasn't old age - as far as I know he was still fairly young, for a pacu. I've heard their life expectancy is around 60 years, but there's not much documented on it, just because there's not many people who can house them that long. We had a total tank crash and lost almost everything - totally without explanation and everything tested okay....just one of those freak events.

Well that is the best life time i have heard for a pacu in captivity.. you should be very proud.
 
nice pacus all, i would get one but once it out grew my 150 i wouldnt know what to do with it.

excuse my ignorance, but how many different species of pacu are there and what are their size differences? anyone have any good info on this?

it is cute when they eat carrots and celery, you can here them crunching it threw the glass. they are awesome .
