I swooped up four baby red sevs yesterday!

These will grow out with the baby bichirs for now until they're a decent size and can be mixed with the two larger sevs in my last post.

They are about 2.5-3" each

I also got a new baby oscar. I picked this one out because it's a 'clean' albino that doesn't have any black pigment on it, or what oscar keepers mistakingly call 'lutino'.

they are soooooo cute.. makes me want some sev babies again...and the baby o is precious...

Thank you Liz!! I can't wait to see their potential come out, they only get better as they grow!

Are your sevs scrappy at all? The two in the main tank have arguments once in a while, and these babies will chase each other if they get too close to each other or just display. I'm hoping by having 6 in the big tank that natural aggression will decrease. Hopefully

I really have to give my sevs their own tank so I can get them to parent beyond the "few day" stage, lol. The Hecklii feast on the babies. They have a new batch since the last ones. These guys have produced one sapwn after another.

Whats a good size for a pair of sevs who are still under 6"? Is a 30 gallon big enough? How long will they actually parent their fry?

Severums are so elegant and sweet.. we were just talking about them last night..never bother anybody and they are so graceful .. i love taking pics of them because they love getting their pictures taken

Thanks Chaitika, hopefully once I get a DSLR I can take pics as nice as yours though!

I would say a 30g is plenty big, I'm keeping mine in a 40g with some bichirs.

Several of the bichirs need to be moved back to the 180g though.

I don't know anything about breeding sevs, I bought these at an LFS, so sorry can't help you there. I hope that with 6, I can get two to spawn

you really cannot tell and then later the only way you will know is if the female lays eggs etc..the only sure way is to vent them.. but don't do that when they are small.. post some pics of babies please.
