ok so i dont have one(yet) but when i turn 16(in 3 years) and can build my indoor pond i am getting one. so lets see yours!!! maybe this thread will still be goin when i get mine(ya never now) so lets see them bowfin!!! also if ya want post some care information on them.

why, no bowfin pix at school if you wher talking the care, i meant like your bowfins tankmates, tank size, and of course the bowfins size

heres mine.
bowfin are awesome fish but need a huge pond when there bigger. females can reach 3', mabe a little more. they can be very aggresive but i havent had any problems with tankmates. there tuff as nails. they can tolerate a wide range of temps and there air breathers. they love to jumo so u need a cover. they have great personallities. mine comes to the surface and splashes me when hes hungry.
sadly i will probably be selling mine in the near future. im selling my huge tank and he isnt big enough for a pond

hes about 6 1/2". hes a surprisingly slow grower. i was expecting at least 1" a month.

also he was very hard to get off live food. he was starved for 2 weeks before he took anything and he still goes on little hunger strikes when i feed pellets

That might be why his growth is slightly slow, ever tried lake smelts or Market prawns?

market prawns, yes but he usually wont take them like he does other things. the most he goes is 3 days without eating but then he stuffs himself till he looks like a baloon. he eats earthworms, beefheart, talapia, frozen shrimp, and every so often as a treat hotdog.
he takes pellets on occasion though. this has been going on for about a month and hes done it twice since then.
he has been growing about 3/4" a month

loves to eat.
he eats anything pretty much ( pellets, mp, silversides, krill etc.)
going into the 300 gal stock tank when he gets larger. He's only about 7-8 inches. Like zigg said, they have a remarkably slow growth rate.
