It's actually one of the only freshwater cardinal fish in the world. They're morphologically interesting, and have pretty cool colours (if you're into greens and browns), but as an aquarium fish, they sort of leave a bit to be desired.
They're nocturnal, so you don't seem them often, they're very sedentary, and you'll more than likely never actually see one feed. They'll also eat things almost their own size, which I'm sure none of you perch keepers are surprised about. The one thing that really turns me off about them is their total lack of balls.
That's right, they're pathetic. They don't fight back when a fish of the same size charges them, so they just skulk off and eventually either starve to death, or run out of places to skulk to and die. So I suppose they'd be good in a quiet, community tank full of non-obtrusive and inexpensive tankmates. Otherwise, they're a bit of a waste of filtration capacity to be honest.
Thats interesting-the pics I've seen of them I really like. Found one for sale here at last-5-6 cms & £80-but I don't feel so tempted now
