Gruntaz - I would like to have something in with him but I don't think there would be much that would last too long with him. Any ideas from your experience with Sooties? I understand why you would miss yours tho, they're awesome fish.

The only thing i would put with them are spangled perch at the size of your fish but only if theres plenty of room they wont hesitate to dismember another fish :S

When i had mine i kept it with cichlids and spangled's while they were young (i had a couple) but eventually they just wont take any tankmates and by the time mine was around the size of yours it was alone lol

You could try some of the more aggressive cichlids but keep a very close eye on them but most of all spangled perch are the one thing i'd try with him but around my area they're hard to come by.

I don't imagine spangled perch would be any easier to find around me. I have contemplated going and catching a small redfin perch and putting it in and see what happens. Just don't have a spare tank to quarantine one.

Yeah not really a good idea, i'm pretty sure they carry a disease that only affects natives and not them so you wouldnt be able to tell if they are fine or not.
Spangled's are pretty much everywhere around Aus they just look different depending on where theyre from.
