i had mine from 1" to 4.5" then it jumped when it was in a hospital tank. him and my channel used to be buds. 
man i'm sorry but mine have never jumped but my two sun cats partner up with my lima at dawn then i flip the lights on then they bolt to a hiding place
i picked up two 10 inchers over the weekend at an LFS that were stuck in a 20 gallon dirty tank together. I'll post pics tonight.

how big of a tank are the in now?... well how ever of big the tank is its probably one heck of a relief from the dirty 20g you were talking about
they are in a 240 now, happy as clams, couldnt get any good pics last night, but feeding nite tonight, so they'll come out and i'll catch them.
