Here's my jumbled mess on my 180 gal petrochromis and tropheus tank

I'm running a 40 gal sump with 10 gal of bio balls and japanese pond mats powered by a mag 12. Also using an eheim 2262, and to top it off a vortech mp40w wavemaker

right side of stand where I also keep misc crap. I prefer flexible tubing because it offers less restrictions and can be easily altered and adjusted as need be. I've also found it to be quieter as well. It looks like a**, but it does its job for me

Nice setup! Piece of advice, you may want to get some hose clamps on thse hoses for the FX5. I had my 120 gallon plumbed the same way and after the softline got hard with a little age, the return line popped off. Flooded my dining room..

Yeah I hose clamp every line now for this exact same reason. I think the small ones cost less than a buck at HD. They last forever too.

Ok, I play...after having watched this thread from the first post and really enjoyed all the setups.
This is by far the best thread I've ever seen in any forum. The ideas and different takes on setup are by now a bible to any aquarium enthusiast. Compliments to everyone who contributed to it...

For my setup: I'm running a 100 Gallon tank, (150x50x50cm), the sump is DIY and approx 1/3 of that. Using 2x2800 liter/hour pumps at full speed. 1 3/4" return-line at full speed at little to no noise at all except soft humming of the pumps. (you have to stick your head into the cabinet to notice it.)



The sump is filled up with bioballs and a home-made dual sponge on a pump to take out small particles.
Goes over ceramic-rings in the second compartment, then an empty section for later use. From there in the pump-section, pumps in the back...
The plastic bag you see in the left side of the sump, contains a fridge cooling element. I stripped away the fridge, leaving only the pump, radiator and element to cool down the tank when necessary. Can get extremely hot here in Jan/Feb...Not running it continuously..
Will all be dismantled this weekend to get a new 5 meter cabinet in place. Once finished, rebuilding and seriously planting it. Currently some Angels and smaller fish. Likely I will transfer my Discus here in a couple of months, Angels go to the pond and the Discus tank gets new youngsters to grow out.
Right now it runs without problems and hardly any attention at all (some food and maybe once a month some water-change, which is opening a tap and a drain at the same time.
Pumps get the water out to 3 tubes connected to 3 vertical pipes in the corners with 2 outlets each...1 tube goes to a spray-bar.

Thanks Egon...was a very complicated 2-tank sump...got tired of it and build this one with scrap glass I got from a friend.
very happy with the flow, if flow-charts are correct, then with the 3/4 Inch return, I'm getting about 650-700 Gallon p/hour.
For the chiller, there's a thread on Aquaria Central on it. Search for DIY chiller + luc...
