So I picked up a trio of nice sized tricolors from a fellow member the other day and while I am aware of how big they can grow to I don't recall seeing many photos of large balas.
Whoever has some big balas feel free to post them. Here are mine in temporary holding.

Nice! I have a group of 5. My largest is probably around 10".
Awesome, how long have you had them and how big were they when you first got them?

Very nice healthy Bala Sharks you both have. :)
Thanks,I think the balas are a very overlooked large dither/shoaling fish.I hope to see more from others.

Been contemplating growing out a few myself. I'll probably pull the trigger, one of these days, when they go on sale at my local Petsmart

I agree, you just don't see to many large ones. I don't think they are as easy to keep or as fast growing as a tin foil barb for instance. I do recall seeing a few that were over 12" a long time ago.

I have wanted a group for quite a while now rather than tinfoil barbs to go in with my dats but could not find any good sized balas to grow out. Most shops only seem to carry them in small sizes and for six to eight bucks each so I jumped on the instant gratification option.

K krichardson I've had them a couple years now. The first one I bought was already big, probably about 8". The others I bought at probably 3" each. They seem to grow fairly quick in the first year or so and then slow down.

I personally prefer the smaller sizes. I enjoy watching them grow out. It gives me a sense of accomplishment
