Lets see your big Bala Sharks!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I personally prefer the smaller sizes. I enjoy watching them grow out. It gives me a sense of accomplishment
I can respect that but personally at this point I am a bit tired of growing out fish.I want to get my datnoid biotope (of sorts) going and I need to have fish that are big enough to not be easily eaten.

I have wanted a group for quite a while now rather than tinfoil barbs to go in with my dats but could not find any good sized balas to grow out. Most shops only seem to carry them in small sizes and for six to eight bucks each so I jumped on the instant gratification option.
Krich- next time you are up here... I have an 8 inch one or so I want to rehome... I rescued him as a baby from a store that was closing but really have no place for him... or I will be putting him in the NJAS Auction

That would complete my group so we will definitely have to set something up!

Not sure if I will be able to make that although I really would like to check out Monster Aquarium some day.We are gonna have to meet up in the next few days, you and I.

Wow these are all very impressive, the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago also has some beasts. Red tailed sharks at these impressive sizes are also quite a site.

I had a couple that were about 14" to 16" inches about 10 years old but my armatus ended up killing them

Here's an old video of my 19.5 inch pleco. In the background you can see my monster Balas I had ranging from 8" up to 14" .

Excuse the crappy video it was taken back in 93 on an 8mm which I put on the TV and recorded it to new camera

Cool thread. Whats the growth rates like in these guys. My wife loves them. Was thinking about surprising her with our next tank.
