Let's see your carpintis!

I have one in a 125, it's about 3-4 inches. I think right now the best ones are the "Rio Hondo" from CoA. Big spots, glowing blue color even at small sizes. I've had two, they are pretty skittish, somewhat aggressive, eat a lot, and a little bit prone to disease. They are pretty aggressive, too. I do like them a lot.

And i know this probably isn't actually a carpintus, I just know it is often grouped with them. I don't know the details on these guys, ik there are 2 main species of texas though right?

The term Texas cichlid is erroneously used as a catchall for many of the Herichthys.
There is only 1 Texas, and that is H cyanoguttatus (unless you actually count hybrids as species).
H carpintus is from Mexico, south but not from Texas. There are many carpintus location variants, Hondo, Chairel (like mine) etc etc, each from different lagoons, giving them slightly different color distinctions)
H tamsopoensus is from the Rio Tamasopo area.
Even 1 of the H minckleyi variants from the Cuatro Cienegas, could at times be mistaken as a "Texas".
Below, H tamasopoensus
