So, I just received two Gymnogeophagus fish. They were sold as:
"geophagus australis" which I translated as "gymnogeophagus australis" also...this picture was included...

Now, I receive my little pair of fishes and obviously they are juveniles...I'm worried that they aren't ID'd correctly...they seem to be gymnogeophagus meridoinalis...

I'll post some pics of my gymno's tonight when I get home from work, but I notice that there are key differences...
1. My gymno's have "black edging" on the anal and dorsal fins, along with what I assume the male has a black "patch" underneath his gill/throat which he flares in display and exposes said black coloration
2. My gymno's lack the blue/red stripe pattern and still have the vertical barring (while faint) with the solid black dot found on the upper torso still visible, but the male appears to be losing or fading the spot.
3. My gymno's lack the "red" highlights and dots found on meridoinalis, except on the fins....
any ideas? anyone here a "naked earth eater" expert? I'm just concerned so I can figure the adult size of these...
Ryan.
