I took the wife today to our LFS and she saw a community tank of 6 EBA in one of their display tanks. She instantly loved them we have one right now but she wants a community tank of 6 Is this doable in something 4ft? Or to please the lady would a group of 3 with say 2 Bolivian rams and a Angel be a better option. Also always wanted to know are these hybrids? I do not see much literature on them during my Google searches.
 
from what i've been told you could only have 2 in a 55 gallon. If they paired up they wouldn't tolerate any other cichlids in the tank. You could have a pair with some Barbs and big Livebearers.
 
These guys are great. I have bred my pair numerous times. They live in a 55g with a couple of polys. 6 might work in a 90g until they breed. When you say a 4 foot tank do you mean a 55g? 75g? 90g? 120g? The volume matters. I wouldn't put more than 2 in a 55 long term.

It's a 90 that will be empty when I move and the lady wants a peaceful tank. I was thinking 3 EBA, bolivian pair, and maybe 1 or 2 angels.
 
I wouldn't call EBA 100% "peaceful" I keep mine with a pair of angels but also with some more aggressive guys and they will and do push their weight around. They might give the rams a hard time although they might ignore the angels and not register them as a cichlid that's a threat to them.
 
I have kept individuals in a community tank that included angels until they reached 3". Then I sold them. They were big/old enough to breed, but had not formed pairs. I haven't tried mixing my pair with cichlids but I know they get into squabbles with my datnioid.
 
Currently have 5 in my 125, four males and one female. They are full grown now and I can't add anything unless the fish is the same size or larger. They will just keep messing with it. I tried adding an adult angel months ago and they ended up stressing it to the point it died. Here's my 5.
