Let's talk Electric Blue Acara

I don't get the appeal of short bodied fish. Their stunted growth can't be good for long term health. Plus why would you want a smaller version anyway? A full grown Oscar is an amazing fish. I am not a fan of humans altering nature in any way shape or form.

Well this is a color morph, not short body....

I keep mine with severum, albino bristlenose pleco and a newly added firemouth. The firemouth might not stay, depends on its attitude in the future. No problems yet though. My eba "Blue steel" is very laid back. Stays to itself unless provoked. Had a few wild guianacra dacyra that were a little mean. Blue steel held its ground everytime it was messed with until i got ride of the bandits. Gets along great with my severum. I've had it a little over a year. Grows pretty slow compared to other species I've had. It was about 2.75 to 3 inches when I got it. Right around 4.5 to 5 inches now. I say it because Im not good at sexing them. I know my severum is a male but I don't know about Blue. Was told by Jeff Rapps that they are easier going than andinoacara puncher. I'm going for a relative peaceful cichlid community. Going to add another severum, a fesrivum, a chocolate cichlid and a zebra pleco with them. I've read and have been told they all share similar attitudes. I have read they can be aggressive towards their own kind and of course while breeding. Good luck with your decision. Added a couple pics of Blue Steel and the tank and severum it's with.

I've got a breeding pair of these. They never really show any real aggression and are currently temporarily being housed with my growing jag and red terror and they get on absolutely fine. IMO I would say that they're quite passive. Even when breeding I found they weren't very good parents and didn't do a great job at defending their eggs, but this just could have been my pair even after multiple attempts:(. Although be warned, they did make a feast of the 12 rummy nose tetra in my tank when they were first introduced. It's always a risk. Best kept with other similar sized hardy fish, preferably Cichlids. This has worked for me with numerous different fish. A Firemouth would be fine and is a good example, but i'd still keep more of a close eye on the Firemouth then the EBs. Another thing is that EBs have a large mouth in proportion to it's size and this can be very deceiving, defiantly something that would need to be thought through when stocking the tank.

Very beautiful and colourful fish though.

Currently have 5 in my 125, four males and one female. They are full grown now and I can't add anything unless the fish is the same size or larger. They will just keep messing with it. I tried adding an adult angel months ago and they ended up stressing it to the point it died. Here's my 5.

Sweet tank!
