Well after the disaster with the wakin goldfish in my 150G http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145512

I am giving one of my old favs another try. Picked up a male JAG for the 150 gallon tank.

I used to have a JAG about 2-years ago, (the one in my avatar) it was sold to me as a "Wild caught, pellet-trained MALE" from Rapps.

Had a rough start with it, because it arrived in a bag that leaked ALL the water out and at first I thought it was going to die.

Then its torn up tail fin developed finrot, which I fixed.

The fish turned out to be a female, and it DID NOT EAT pellets no matter what I tried. I was able to get it to eat freeze-dried krill and live super-worms.

Eventually, it only ate superworms and refused ANYTHING else. The fish was the most skittish fish I ever owned.

One day it freaked as it always DID, whenever you walked near the tank, but this time it was BAD, the fish slammed the glass top of the tank with such force that it knocked the light right off the tank.

After that the fish just swam in loops, stopped eating and just sat with its body in a bent postion on the bottom of the tank. I think it messed up its spine or something, but had to put it down and I swore off wildcaught fish forever.

Anyway my LFS has had this JAG in one of its small 15x15x15 jail cells by itself for the past 6-8 months REALLY. They have a whole top row of these 15x15x15 cube tanks, each tank contains one monster, maybe a dovii, lots of midas and some smaller jags that were marked GOLD wildcaught.

Evertime I visit the store, I check this fish out because I have always liked JAGS.

This fish has been in perfect looking condition for so long, the fins were perfect. I guess the change the water constantly.

I cannot beleive it has been in the store for so long without being sold. I asked the store clerk what it ate, he said ANYTHING, I said pellets? He said yep and he likes krill.

I said if he eats a pellet I will buy him. The clerk tossed a pellet in (Hikari Massivore) and the rest is history.

I have him in my 150-gallon, and I just love this fish. I hope it does well.

Its puppy-dog tame (maybe from being in the store so long with constant traffic by it's tank?)

It cruises my tank like it doesnt have a care in the world. I could not even walk past the tank with my other JAG. This JAG comes over to the glass and checks YOU out, I just love it.

Of course I am dying to give him all kinds of good food, but I am SO AFRAID if I start that crap he will stop eating pellets.

Just took a quick 30-sec video of him, havent had time to get any good still photos yet.

Hope you enjoy.

Nice video and good looking jag. The same thing that happened to your old jag happened to my 15" male a few weeks ago. I finally had to put him down when he didn't improve after a month. Mine freaked out from protecting fry when my daughter walked up to the tank. Good luck with the new one, he looks great.:)

its got a gorgeous pattern. Most don't look as good as that one.

Nice patterns on him. I would have picked him up if I was anywhere near that store a long time ago. I'd add some decor to the tank though. The jag would look much nicer with a black background, black moon sand as substrate or black pebbles, and some nice driftwood pieces.

Thanks for all the postive feedback, after 25+ pictures, this is the best I could get for today :)
