Thanks, man... I'm sure yours will turn out fantastic. I never thought I'd be so into convict type fish, but they are pretty cool!

the smaller ca's are some of the coolest fish I have kept, cutteri ,cons ,rainbows,fm . all are great fish

I do agree they are underrated. Its nice to have a 40 or 55 with some smaller cichlids species instead of one 150 and one large fish in there.

this is mine. i was told it was f1 i never thought about looking into these to see if f1 was possible thats just what i was told. he is about 5 years old and never grew more than 5" has his little hump on his head and red tail during breeding. he has fathered many batches but never grew out any so i couldnt tell you what kind of babies came out.

I agree w/ everyone that plats could be a different sp. then HRPs. The problem is that neither have been scientifically described yet..what the hell is taking biologist so long lol!

Just thought about one more thing-black convicts, calico, and pink convicts. All look different yet all are the same sp. supposedly.

Yeah thats true they could be a closely related species of fish thats always Platinum. took the icthyologists long enough to realise that HRPs and convicts are different species.

I'm sure if you bred a HRP with a platinum HRP the outcome would be one of two thing.

1. a lighter version of HRP showing characteristics from both fish. (showing that they are different species)
2. A batch of fry that yield a small percentage of platinum fry, vs a bunch of completely ordinary HRP fry. (which suggests its a variant of the same fish, like marbled/pink convicts)
