I ordered some Levamisole for deworm.
I have about 4 fishes in my main tank with some what sunken belly even thought they eat very well. There are also two fish with on and off white hair like poop.
I have already dozed 3 rounds of PraziPro and 3 rounds of Metro. Also have added Epsom salt in the tank 1tbsp per 5 gallon and have been soaking the food with Epsom salt and garlic. I have also feed purchased flakes with Metro and Prazi.

I am starting to think maybe they don’t have bloat but instead have worm?

I wanted to dose my main tank withLevamisole HCL but just to be safe and make sure I am doing it correctly.

from what I read on Loachesonline.com, I came out with 1.26 gram for estimated 140 gallon (125+ 50 sump- rocks and media).

Anyone has experience with this drug and can confirm some questions I have?

1. Does 1.26 gram sounds right for 140 gallon and should I add a little more just to be safe? Like 1.4 gram maybe?
2. Levamisole is safe with my BB?
3. I read it is light sensitive, so I should dose and leave the light off for how long?
4. Should I feed during this time?
5 I should do a large WC and vacuum substrate 24 hrs later?
6. I should redose in 2 weeks? Then again in 3 weeks?
7. Is there any harm with EPsom salt in the water when dosing?

I used the 1 gram per 100 gallon dosage and it rid my problems.

1)Safe for BB
2lI turned the light off for treatment, but be sure to monitor the fish intermittently.
3)If your fish eat with the light off, yes, feed them with Esalts since it will act as a laxative
4)I did my big water change 24-36 hrs later
5)Yes, I redosed in two weeks and again in 2 more weeks.
6)Idk if Epsom salts matter in the water, I guess it would depend on the starting hardness. I know most meds work better with lower TDS in the water.

Can you tell me what I should be expecting after dosing?

For instance, would I be seeing worms being excreted by my fish? Do you do WC and Vacuum after 24 hrs?

I didn't notice much with the fish, they pretty much acted normally. I didn't see any worms falling out, but I saw a weird white substance from the vent of one of my angels.

This was a day after 2nd treatment, after my big water change and you can see she doesn't look very good. She continued to decline after this, losing weight and succumbed to the damage within the year. Because I saw this after treatment, I did another Levamisole treatment in two weeks. Anyway, I (we) figured it was intestinal lining damage that I was seeing.

Before treatment, the only symptom was wasting. (One fish wastes, I'm concerned, 2nd one and I knew I had a prob) I may have seen a pink/red dot at the vent of some fish sometimes.

I had already removed extra decor and plants to be able to siphon well. But I just siphoned as best I could with the python.

I kept the scape simple for the next year or so and continued to siphon more diligently. But I didn't freak out with siphoning every little worm. I figured they'd die anyway being paralyzed. Idk....
I just didn't make myself crazy with it is what i'm saying. I made it simple to keep 'clean' but didn't obsess over it. Just because i'm one to make myself crazy with stuff like that....

I did the WC about 24 hours after treatment. I guess mostly it was 36hrs, but 24hrs is recommended.

Great, thank you so much for the detailed info. I don’t know if it’s worm or bloat but seeing their belly staying caved in while the other fish are round concerns me. I am going to try it just to give myself a piece of mind.

1) 1.26g is probably in the ball park if your product is not 100% pure. IIRC the target dosage is 2mg/L. 140 gallons = 529L. 529x2= 1058mg. More isn't always better....follow the instructions.

3)It is light sensitive. I've dosed just before lights out at night, and tossed a dark sheet over the tank the following morning.

5)Do a large WC, and very thorough vac. As I understand it, levimisole only allows the the passing of worms, it does not kill them. You have to remove what is passed.

I dosed the Levamisole, blacked out the tank for more than 24 hours, then did a large WC and substrate vacuum. I am not sure if I see any actual worms when I did the vacuum. The fish all act the same. I will redone again in two weeks.

Wondering how I would know if it actually work or not. I am guessing if I start seeing their belly getting round, that would means it worked?

I did the 3 treatments each 2 weeks apart to get any subsequent generation worms and had confidence it would work. The infestation was so mature by the time I caught it that unfortunately, the badly affected fish continued to demise. But any new wasting cases stopped happening. I am now 2 years passed last treatment and confident the parasite is eradicated from my tank. So all I can personally offer is comfort and encouragement but it worked.

In your case, if the damage to the organs is not as extreme, the fish may be able to recover and you would start to see their stomachs filling out as normal. Without the worms, they would get all the nutrition from the food. How long that takes i'm not sure, probably a couple weeks. Without a microscope slide, it's kind of a watch and wait thing (as far as I know)

Really appreciate your answer. I will do the 2 additional treatments two weeks apart and hopefully that will help my fish if they do have worm. I guess it would hurt.
