Can you get a friend to help? It should be easier with two people. I use contruction plates from HD to shim my stand.

What surface is the stand sitting on? Carpet, tile? Be aware that an empty tank that is level may not be so once filled.

I have wooden floorboards that I took up over Christmas and braced the joists with breeze blocks. floorboards back down, then a sheet of 3/4 mdf atop the whole thing screwed to the floorboards. laminate flooring layed atop of that. im expecting some compression under the weight, but shouldnt be too too bad

I think what Pacu Mom is spot on. Typically, shimming needs to be ALL of the side, so to shim the front up, you want to either use one long piece that fits the whole front, or shim each foot. Good catch. And some opinions are that 1/4" is enough to be an issue with larger tanks.

Make sure to remove most of the water first. Lifting one edge of the stand at one time while the other edge is flat and the tank has a lot of water can potentially stress the seals on the tank.

luckily the tank hasnt been filled yet, im getting shims made up to go from front to back of the tank. got people coming round to assist Wednesday :)

if it wasnt as big of a tank I wouldnt be worried. my 4foot tank is about the same and it doesnt really concern me

I really think you don't need to worry about 1/4 in. I would like to hear from one member that had a tank fail from being that far off .. not I heard about stories , but an honest to goodness My tank failed... I BET you wont... they just don't...
