leveling and setting big tank on carpet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yup put some shims in there. Eventually the carpet will flatten and there will be good contact between the stand and subfloor. How you space them across the stand in my opinion depends on how the stand is built. I usually place shims if needed at any of the corners and only in areas where there is an upright from floor to tank.

So be a good idea to fill with some water after shimming it to get level let it sit for a day or two to settle then re check it for level-ness again and if all is good fill her up ?

If it was me I would fill with a little water first. The carpet tackstrip might throw off the level of the tank. It has happened to me twice already.

Yes, Make sure the tank is far enopugh away from the wall that you don't hit the tackstrip. Once it is shimmed, you can just break off the shims under the stand and you won't see them.

Hello; I no longer place tanks on carpet after some ruined carpet and damaged floors. I level with a long carpenters level, two feet or longer if you have one.
I first level the stand without the tank with shims. Carpet can throw the process off a bit. I use solid shims usually made of metal in particular with large tanks. After the stand is level I place the tank on the stand and check the level again. If still true enough I add some water and check again. If the level is off at this point I empty the tank and start again. I keep checking the level as the tank is filled.

If you are determined to place the tank on carpet regardless of the likely damage, I would leave the tank set with a bit of water for some time to see if the carpet and pad compresses enough to change things before filling up.
Good luck, on carpet you will need it.

well the reason i ask is cuz im thinking im going to have to move in the near future and not really sure what kind aplace im moving in only be looking at places i can afford tho, and if it carpet then its carpet and cant help it lol... ideally yes hardwood would be best for sure but im thinking hardwood is un likely ....
