levelling a tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
plus once you fill it will water it will settle, so you don't want to raise one side and then have it be higher after you put water in it.

I wouldn't use the stuff for bulletin boards. If you can find the 1 foot squares like tile that'd be the best to use. You can cut to fit the steel.

so about 1/4inch thick all along the bottom of the tank should be plenty??

sorry for hijacking

The tiles I'm referring to are thicker than that. If you're going to use the 1/4 inch stuff you should use multiple layers. This is really to allow the tank to settle on what could be an irregular surface. You could also use Styrofoam sheets, like from a fish box.

This depends on the construction of the tank. Most tanks built in the USA have the sides, front and back extended below the bottom of the tank, protected by some sort of trim. Elsewhere tanks sides are built ON the bottom, protected by trim. I'd imagine that the foam or cork would protect either type but it might need to be thicker on the flat-bottomed tank.

Hijacking??? Obviously this isn't a private conversation. <grin>

thanks for all the info, quite usefull!
Ive decided to put the tank next to the wall so the whole subject wasnt neccesary after all. it wasnt perfecty levelled when it was empty but now that its filled, it quite good. Think it was cuz of the carpet.

I always make the tanks as level as possible.Even if the stand can take the stress of the slope, the slanted water would drive me nuts.

I've had better luck keeping an acrylic tank on a stand with a solid top, not a ring. I'd probably put it on plywood or something like that instead of something as flimsy as foam.
