wow that guy is an total ass..

Yea......he totally miffed me off!!!!!! I can understand where he came from but.......geez! I've never been treated like that ever! I understand trying to inform people when they dont know but he pushed it all on me for no reason....He couldnt get over the fact that i only had a 90 gall for the cichla! It was an inch and a half! And i explained that i had a buddy with a 360 gal waiting for the fish, so yea that was terrible! That store's owner is WAAAAAAY cool and the head guy in their aquatic department is the coolest! But they have some jerk off employees.....i told mike (the head of aquatics) about it and he kinda shrugged and basically said "that's the problem with these guys" I just hate people who think they know everything, so much so that you can't know enough for them to sell you a fish......rediculous!

Heck no need to journey far to meet people like that, some are like that online. =P Threads like "I bought a 3" arowana.....he's in a 50g....." "OMG GET A BIGGER TANK NOW!"

While I would like to believe most of us understand the importance of providing adequate housing for our pets; some people just need to relax. Take it easy with the advice, no need to force the issue. As long as you provide accurate information to the customer, it's still their money. It's just a chance you have to take in hoping they take your info into consideration.

Motion i entirely agree! I love to give all the knowledge i can, and im welcome to being put in my place by someone who knows more than me.....but unless i said something incorrect or a little inacurate (dang i cant spell) i dont need someone trying to "drop bombs" on me! If you dont understand that i mean having someone un-necesarily (again cant spell) act as though you dont have a clue about anything and then demean u for thinking you knew about anything........worst experience in my fish keeping life

one lfs is brilliant, the other doesnt no what a cichlid is :irked:
its embarassing when they start arguing with u because ur right and they r wrong, yet they have already admitted they dont no what they r talking about...then when i ask for a job they so no lol

Couldn't agree more with the salesman comment. Started going bck to an LFS i'd not been to for a while at the beggining of this year, i needed filters for a new tank, knew the capacity in gallons but not litres. I somehow ended up buying 2 filters after talking with the guy and later worked out that i only needed one of the filters i bought. At £120 each they weren't cheap, but on the plus side it's better to be over filtered than under filtered. I always make sure i'm delt with by 1 of the 2 main guys there as the rest of them don't come accross as that knowledgable on what they're selling.

I would have to come to the defense of lfs, first and foremost it is the consumers responsibility to know what they are asking for. For sure some salespeople misrepresent and that is reprehensible. On that note, I must wonder was it done on purpose or out of ignorance. If done on purpose the person is a smacktard who needs a kick in the wee wee if out of ingnorance can they really be held to blame. After all they most probably are not making the highest of pay and have many things that overwhelm them as well as have their fair share of people taking it out on them when they come into the store and multiple incidences of S & A tend to make people seared in the care area.

On the other side of the coin, I have some domino damsels in my 75g reef tank that people told me to get out. Even going so far as to call them demon damsels. I have had them for over 1.5 years and they mind their own. Presently they are with a mated pair of clowns who gaurd their anen fiercely, a tomato clown, a black and white clown and an engineer goby.

I really think the key to a good tank is the way in which the rock is laid out.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Have had a few myself, like the time where the fish dude told me in a huff that since I called newts salamanders I must be unable to care for them, besides I did not even know the scientific name for them so he said he would refuse to sell them to me.

At which time I politely informed him that the petstore tank was not hard to reproduce and that I did not need to know the scientific name to care for them as I had asked my last time in what it took to care for them. These were also a pet that my then 6 year old son was totally in awe of and as his father, it was my intention to fulfill my sons wishes.

In speaking with the fish dude, I asked him how many tanks he had running. It seems that he was more of a herp dude and had very little in the way of active water. At this time I had over 27 tanks running totally almost 2500g with over 100 empty tanks of various sizes in my basement. I told him in no uncertain terms and in very clear words that he was not as important as he thought himself to be and that I could easily have a tank set up in less than half an hour that would be far superior than the central sump system tank they presently have them in and also asked him who he thought he was to deny my son these newts!

On the way out I had a short talk with the manager. I reminded her that they were not the only pet store in town. I used to shop there minimum 2/week and it was not unusual to drop $150-$300 per visit sometimes, though most visits were in the range of $25-$50. Still add it up and as a business person selling food, people vote with their feet and their wallet. Now most of my visits there are to see if they have brought in a unusual fish or to let my kids take some time with their animals most of which are open for general public to interact with.

My LFS I go to is really good, the main fish guy really knows his stuff, plus its good when the girls are in cause there pretty good looking and kinda clueless...i see why he hired them...
Then theres petsmart...the main fish lady is pretty good though only really knows about what she has in stock (typical of a sales person so its forgivable) but then the other girls that work there ive seen reading the little cards about the fish on the tank to customers cause they didnt know. Like how ID Sharks only need a 20+ tank...
