i was on a road trip today so i looked up petstores in a city that was about halfway on my trip to get out and look around, found one on mapquest that was only a mile and a half out of my way so i went, wasnt planning to buy just look at there stock. i saw 3 tanks of interest, first was a 10" tiger shovelnose in a 20gal, im sure you see the problem here so im not going to address it. second was a pair of tanks with florida/spotted gar, not labeled or priced, so i found the guy working in the fish area and i asked him how much the florida gar were, it took him a couple minutes and a little help from me to find the tank they were in, and when he did he looked around at the labels and responded to me "well i think those are the striped pike, so $22.99" i then asked him how they would do in my 55 with my oscar, african brown knife, jack dempsey, and clown knife. "ooh they should be fine" then i asked about keeping a pair of them together as community fish, "yeah i havent heard of anyone having a problem with them as a community fish."




WTF is this world coming to. comments?
 
great deal though. probably a new hire.
 
that's ridicolous. my lfs had the two gars me and my fiance bought labeled as "dwarf gar". WTF. they were a longnose and a F/S. and then they labbled baby F/S and longnoses as "paddle tail gars"

$23 is a great price for here, but i couldnt do it, i hate to see gars in tanks too small for them and i would have to do that to it to try to keep it from being eaten. the tiger shovelnose on the other hand i might have to pick up in a couple weeks if its still there.
 
im not trying to be an *******, but i hope that everyone here knows they eat fish, i think mine has been culling my 6" goldfish herd down to nothing. some of the carnage is on another thread. i was putting this post in to showcase lfs idiots.

And most LFS are idiots about gars this is not really new info....
Most people as a whole are idiots about gars.... (<--- not sarcasm)
