6th Avenue Aquarium has alot of varieties, BUT, the quality sucks. There are dead fish everywhere because you get the fish yourself. You get a bucket, a net, and everyone puts there hands in the water and get there own fish dirty hands and all. Upstairs there are 3 large tanks with every large fish that has some type of disease. I saw a large pacu with half its face off from some type of fungus and large chunks of the body missing covered with fungus. I don't know how it eats and how its still alive. They also have a 5 foot nurse shark in about 2 feet of water with the demensions of the tank about 7 feet by 7 feet. Very sad. Aquatic Central was expensive and just went out of business.

I was at 6th Ave last month. An yeah those top tanks with Pacu's are about as bad as any tank I've ever seen. Most of their tanks are over stocked but its hard to find a better selection in the bay area also good prices. I try an stop in there every time I'm in SF

Yeah, you can't beat their prices or selections but you better quarantine the fish for at least a month. Everyone puts their hand in the tanks to get the fish so hands can be dirty, greasy or just plain nasty. When I used to have a saltwater tank, every Sunday they have a saltwater bag sale. The fish come in and they are still in their original so at least they are not comtaminated by their water from their tanks. Priced for them are great and there would be a line at the door for them to open. If you get there later, the fish could have been in their bags for hours.
