LFS in Chicago?

Aquarium Adventure is nice. Its on the high end of prices, but have great display tanks and a good staff.

Have you been to any of the fish swaps from gwasoc or gcca?

Chicago aquarium is the best. It's in andersonville on clark street. The guy who runs it will do whatever it takes to find you the fish you're looking for and will not pick it up if it is a poor specimen.
 
Rainbow pets in Schaumburg. Small store, great fish, good prices. Scott's has new owners and the store is looking and stocking like the old days. Nice.

For CA/SA, I can't recommend anything in the Chicago area, and other than Chicago Aquarium, I've visited all of the aforementioned LFS many times. Selection for new worlds in this area is limited and the quality is usually below average. For CA/SA, I strongly recommend traveling an hour north to Milwaukee to Hoffers Tropic Life Pets and Aquatics Unlimited. If you have the ability to go west for a half-day, Roe's Aquarium in Rock Island, IL has a great selection of quality of CA/SA - the oscars in my avatar were purchased from Roe's. I second the recommendation of GCCA as another source - including the swap and auction events, the club does coordinate group buys from suppliers.
 
scotts said it best regarding the wi shops, as for wi shops i would like to add aquatics unlimited and pets and things also, chicago selection is below average.....
 
as far as ca sa cichlids chicago aquarium carries a variety of geos and gymnos as well as nice discus ports jaguars uarus acaras etc. not a bad start. The old town aquarium has all kinds of crazy **** as well they are however extremely overpriced but do have great quality. the dude who runs the chicago aquarium used to work at every other lfs in chciago before opening his own place. this guy is a lifer!
 
I am from Milwaukee and Aquatics Unlimited is very good! Every once in a while they will have an unbelievable selection. Most of the time they have only your more common species, but prices and quality are generally good.
