I am from Milwaukee and Aquatics Unlimited is very good! Every once in a while they will have an unbelievable selection. Most of the time they have only your more common species, but prices and quality are generally good.

But even common CA species in this area can be difficult to find. A late summer visit to one of the above named stores has the same one tank labeled "assorted new worlds" with meeki, vieja (blend, otherwise unidentfied), "texas", etc. There was one instance of jupari but with only 2 specimans and an unfulfilled promise that more would be coming. This store has the space, but apparently does not see a market locally for these species.

Aquarium Adventure has a nice selection of CA/SA and would order in something they didn't have for you. Only downside is the store is pretty expensive.

Aquarium Adventure in Hoffman Estates, they have nice selection of plants, they seems to taking care for their fish, never saw one sick, price......hm?.... not cheap.

Scott's Pet Shop in Westchester, low price on plants and fish - not to many to chose from. Be careful buying fish from them, looks like they have ICK problem.

GCCA swap meeting is the best place to buy fish, food, and equipment.

My comment puts "quality" into the equation. And my name is on their list (twice) in 2009 re: a specific species. Again, respectfully, I would not recommend. I only visit since I'm within a 10 mile radius, but those visits are becoming less frequent.

Are you friendly with the manager Josh? He was able to get a few things in for me. I also know a few local breeders that supply him with a good healthy stock. When I have too many angels to sell I usually bring my surplus of adults to him.

I don't believe I have met him, just dealt with staff, who are good. I admit, I don't keep angels and I pass by those two tanks. Same with the discus. And now that I think of it, there are rams, festivum, and thomasi consistently that are nice, but not my preference. So I stand a bit corrected and amend my nonrecommendation - there are some items that may be worth a trip.
