k dont waste your time with 6th ave. its ugly and ghetto, filthy tanks for sure, and he will interagate you before u buy a fish and dem, ands a water sample , when his water is crap

Tomorrow I'm going to the city so I was wondering what are some good lfs's. I've been to oceans aquarium (which I liked) and lucky ocean aquarium (which I wasn't the biggest fan of). Specifically I am looking for a store with a good pleco selection. I've been mainly considering 6th avenue and hung Ming, but I'm open to all suggestions

Thanks

Hung Ming p-rices are San Francisco.......6th Avenue is wholesale........Many plecos to choose from.............I have been going to stores for more than 10 years......

I am almost 100% positive I won't buy anything, It'll take a killer deal.

I do plan on taking pictures, unless they get mad...

You cannot take pics at Sixth Ave. They have a sign and it says no pics. I bought many live fish at Sixth Ave and nothing ever happened to them. Well, like I said, they cater to people who like oddball/rare fishes.

Then I guess no pics... oh well lol. Well hopefully that means they'll cater to me :headbang2

good luck, mayb you'll get lucky and find a heathy pleco for cheap. keep your finger crossed

Well I wasn't able to go to Hung Ming's, but I was able to go to petsmart in daly city and 6th avenue.

I went to petsmart to pick up clown loaches because the one by me doesn't have them for sale, well I got there, found the CL's and they all had ick :irked:, so I went there for nothing

6th avenue really was something different. I was horrified with how small a tank everything was in, the fish on the top shelf downstairs couldn't even move! But I saw zero dead fish downstairs which was definatly good. When I first walked in, I saw dyed fish and showed my mom, that was a bad move, after seeing that she took all my money and would not let me buy anything because she thought it was unethnical to dye fish and didn't want to support the store (which is good I guess). I saw clown loaches that were 3.99 and begged my mom for my money because I didn't see a single sick fish, but I couldn't get any. I went upstairs and the tank size situation got worse. The only fish that seemed to be in semi adequate sized tanks were the discus (which were all sick and dying) and african cichlids. I was looking through the tiny tanks and saw a flagtail that couldn't even move :( It was like five inches long and constantly swam into the sides.

The only fancy pleco I saw was a vampire pleco for 60 $, so I wasn't interested. I kept looking through the tanks and finally I came to a fish that just completely took my breath away. It was a red severum, the fish I have spent the past 2 months looking for in my area. It was actually the most healthy fish I saw in the entire store. Fin's were fine, no heavy breathing, no signs of disease, but it was stressed from the cramped living conditions. It came right up to the front of the tank and would follow me around. I could just imagine it begging me to save it. I looked at the price and WOW it was only 13.99!!!! I spent a good ten mins begging my mom for my money. I tried to explain to her that it was the fish I had been trying so hard to get, and that usually it would be double that price, but nothing worked . So I ended up walking away from my trip to SF empty handed

The only thing cool about 6th avenue was the variety. I saw my first jardini, red severum, GG, freshwater flounder, vampire pleco, and many other sweet fish. The overall health of the fish was better than I expected, but the living conditions were worse.

I think I'm going back to SF next week and I'm probably gonna go to Ocean Aquarium again, Hung Ming, and maybe one more place.
