I went in to buy some metronidazole medication for my fish, and found (to my surprise) that they actually had it (they never have anything I need lol). They had a container of 500mgx100 tablets. I grabbed it and went to checkout. As I am in line I take a glance at the price tag... $240.00. I laughed and figured, this must be a mistake, maybe they mean $24.00 (although I figured that was a bit on the cheap side). So I ask the girl at the register to check if that was the right price. She scanned it, and it popped up on the register as $240.00. I said this must be a mistake, so she called the person in charge of the fish department over. He looked at it, and without hesitation said "yep, its expensive stuff" in a really short, ******* type response. I put it back and went home to research and found many 500mgx100tablet bottles of metronidazole for 20-40.00 online. I understand they are a small ma-n-pop type shop and need to make their money, and I never question paying their reasonably high markup on other stuff because I like to support the small guys but I still think it has to be a mistake. It was re bottled into a bottle with their brand on it, so maybe they bought it in bulk and recalculated the price incorrectly, or their supplier is ripping them off, but there is no way that it could cost 240.00!

I ordered it online, and no longer need it from them anymore, but it still is driving me nuts. I don't know how to approach them about the cost with out sounding like just another customer who "can find it cheaper online" because its wayyy beyond that. I dont want some poor person walking in, being recommended that medication, and buying it for that price!

I agree with you. While I understand slightly higher prices at mom and pop stores, going from 40 to 240 is ridiculous.

Don't tell them anything. Just buy the stuff you think is priced fairly with them and buy all the way overpriced stuff online. Everyone's happy.

I would tell them their error. Also let them know that it cost them a sale. If they aren't responsive to that then you can just let them know you can get other stuff cheaper online.

The manager's attitude needs some retuning.

take them the invoice when you get it and tell them this is why you will no longer shop in their store

But like I said, I don't want to seem like one of those people who expect to find stuff in small LFS's at the same price as it is online, because Im sure they hear that all the time and the fact is small stores cannot possibly match online prices. I still believe it has to be a mistake either on their part, or maybe that they are getting ripped off by their supplier. So even though I don't need the product anymore since I purchased it online, I would hate for someone with less knowledge about what things SHOULD cost go in and get recommended that medication, and buy it for that price.
I've been trying to think of a good way to talk to the manager about it, but with his attitude toward me already being less then helpful, I can't think of a way to bring it up without him going on the defense and not looking at the true facts, or possible mistake on their part. :screwy:

yep the one i usually go to and that has been around since my dad went their has started to do this kind of stuff on all of their stuff especially their fish laity I used to like going their but now I really don’t care for hem ,they had a pond pump that i bought from Menards for 25 for 110 exact same one told him about it and he just says sounds like you got a good deal.

We'll some stores just try and make money on rare things or things they think are rare just buy it from another place but they don't need to loose you business entierly

if i were you i would pop in there one day and just make the manager aware that you spend alot of money in their store but you didnt appreciate his attitude and just tell him they can and will lose alot of business that way. . . especially with the internet
