I went to one of the LFS by me yesterday and was disapointed to see what staff will do to make a sale. I was in the tropical section and some guy asked one of the asistant if any of the fish could live in coldwater. So the assistant says "oh yes any tropical fish can be aclimated to coldwater" , then the guy says "well i've probably got too many fish anyway i have to keep changing water.
Then the assistant kindly points out that if he buys a pleco he wont have to do water changes as it eats all the waste:WHOA:
Fortunatley the guy decides not to buy anything anyway and walks away.

However it is good to see people who care, further down the road i go into another lfs and there is this little mbu puffer which i have been wanting for a while. I ask the guy what he's been feeding it on and he tells me and also says how big it will get etc. I said i realised and thanked him for beeing honest. When he bags it he is very careful not to take it out of the water and is very careful, i was pleased:D

You know sadly enough, alot of the guys I have run into at the LFS just make stuff up based on assumptions.

Great stuff, when I worked at a fish store several years ago, luckily I helped the customers more than they expected... I also bring this point up more in dept in my book im writting.

I dont think he was making an assumption, he was just trying to make a sale. This other girl who works there was givin him evils and he just glared at her.

Some people it is okay to "hate."

i was once also told about the pleco eating waste

luckily i kept a straight face

if the LFS tells you BS about the fish imagine what sort of holding they do feeding etc its probably really badly maintained

when i go to lfs's anymore i usually just dont talk to anyone, find what need (whether fish or not), if i need i fish then ill ask them to get it, if no1s around i get it myself...
especially petco, over here they have the WORST customer service...

:ROFL: Ive done that all the time, just no one helps you, so catch and bag your fish.. :) Good stuff, I agree with you about going into LFS, go in and get what you need.. Dont even bother asking questions..

I was at Petco about a week ago and every tank had at least 3 dead fish. The people working there had NO IDEA what they were saying.
Yesterday, I went to Petsmart and the fish were in very good condition there. I ended up picking up some fish from there. Im glad there is a close store I can go to if i dont have a chance to go for a longer ride. =]
