LFS story

When I talk to people, sure I try to make extra add on sales, but based on real information. I NEVER make things up to make a sale. Example: someone wants a pleco. We sell small commons for $4. I always ask what size tank the person has and if it's smaller than 75-90 gallons, I always recommend a dwarf pleco species. That right there serves two purposes-1) it will lead to a healthier pleco down the line and 2) coincidently bumps the sale up to $8-12. Then I always make sure the person is aware of the pleco's diet. They may snack on algae in the tank, but that will not be enough for them to survive, so I recommend algae wafers as a good staple diet-another $5+ dollars on the sale. I may also add that some like to chew on driftwood-another $8 if they decide to buy it, although I don't really ever push that part.

That is how a sale should be made. It shouldn't be say anything to get someone to buy something. It should be tell them the truth to get them to buy something. They want a pacu? Recommend another, smaller characin or something, don't just tell them, "oh it'll be fine"

What a coincidence...I was having my house renovated and while doing water changes for my angels, a worker approached me and when he saw some of my plecos (not the regular commons), he asked why I did not put them in some of my tanks as they eat detritus. I shook my head in disbelief and tried to explain to him the wrong impression. Dunno if he understood it.:screwy:
