  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Everyone, please remember to say where you are talking about. Dont just give names of a LFS and no location.

Wichita, KS

Rainbow Fish - Superb
Sea Dreams - large, pricey, but worth a visit

In that huge LFS thread, noone said anything about KC area. Does anyone know of a good place there? I am going to a work thing there all next week and I need something to do.

KC area is fairly limited, petco and petsmart make it almost impossible for an independent to stay open..

Here's some places depending upon what your looking for may have something....:nilly:

Miles of Exotics--North KC
Brothers Pets- Indepedence
Blue Ridge Pets- South KC
Petland - Olathe
Mission Pets - Mission
Aquatic Pets (?) - Western KC
Fins and Foliage - Gladstone

Let me know what your into and I'll try to point you in the right direction.

Really just looking for a place with something more unique than what petco etc would have. Freshwater mainly. Also, west side of town would be my preference if at all possible.

thanks for your help, man

These three are probably your best bet and they are all fairly close geographically ( I'm an LA transplant so close to me is a little different than if your a Kansas native, but they can all be seen in one night .)

Howdy,

As communicated by PM, here for the general public:

The probably best fish store in the area is

Pet World
711 W 23rd St
Lawrence

The local PetCo is not bad, either. I was surprised myself. Haven't been there in a while, though:

Petco
3115 Iowa St
Lawrence

In Kansas City, I can recommend one store for buying fish. It's a family-owned store. They have a few monsters, although not a super-huge selection.

Mission Pet Mart
5703 Johnson Dr
Shawnee Mission, KS

Another store sometimes has a nice selection, sometimes they suck. Their quality is not convincing, especially for tanks & stands. I only swing by there when I have to go to the mall with my wife I believe the store is called Aquarium Wholesale. It's in:

The Great Mall of the Great Plains
20700 West 151st Street
Olathe, KS

Aquarium Adventure
on Glen Cove Road in Carl Place is another overpriced store. What aggravates me about this store is that they set their prices to a ridiculous amount and then offer discounts to club members that make the prices more bearable. Also, there are only about three staff members that have adequate knowledge to fish keeping. An example of this is, just the other day I went to look for a Fuhaka and asked about it at the store. When I got there I saw the new Red Sea Max Fish Tank/setup and inquired about starting my first saltwater tank. The young man there told me it would be an excellent tank for starting out. Let me remind you that it is only 34 gallons and on the box it clearly states that it is a reef tank. I called up "John" at Parrots of the world and was told that I would need a much larger tank if I was thinking about saltwater. Anyway, I did go there to see about a puffer, the young man told me he had never heard of a Fuhaka. I said thank you very much and drove over to Parrots of the World, where I ordered a Fuhaka and talked about putting together a nice 150 gallon-250 gallon fish tank, that will cost me just a little more than what the 34 gallon tank would have cost.
Right now I am in the process of making some room so that I will be able to get the biggest fish tank possible. They will come over, deliver it, and set it up for me. No I am not a novice or a wimp. I am a quadriplegic and it would be impossible for me to set up such a large tank by myself, but they will do this for anyone. Just another service that they supply. I love my Parrots of the World

Just moved here and really don't want to waste the gas driving all over the county to be disapointed. anybody in the area know where the good ones are?
