I just wanted to see what other fellow MFKers are doing during the hot summer months. I usually replace my lids with egg crates. It helps keep the tank a little cooler as well as keep the fishes from jumping out.

The egg crates sound like a pretty good idea for allowing extra heat to escape while preventing your fish from doing the same.My tanks are all in the basement so my lids stay closed when I am not working in them. The temps stay pretty comfortable down there during the hot months.

I have air conditioning, so I don't do have to do anything different haha

In the winter it would cost a lot to do that. Thats why most people use heaters.

Gas is cheaper than electric here. With a lot of tanks, I'd rather just heat the house to the mid 70's in the winter.
The tank will be room temp unless you have a pump that heats up the water or hot lights like metal halides...

x2 though when we had our small appartment... heating was included... so we kept the appartment in the low to mid 70s ... no heaters
