The polli was around 16"-18", if I remember correctly. The ornatipinnis had several owners. First the retailer, then private, then a zoo in Austria for a lot of years and finally private again.

Wow that is the longest time I heard of. Now with just ornate and polli, so there is no other species so far. Hope to hear more of other species polypterus in future. :)

Just wondering why you asked your question at all if you're not going to believe peoples answers? :screwy: :naughty: :screwy:

That's not what I meant. :( So far there is not much proven records of the life span of bichirs and nothing much can be found on the web, so I have to be more careful with info provided. It has to be as accurate as possible and as truthful as possible as so that it maybe put up in some web documents here for records purpose.

If I were to tell you I got a 24 yr old endy and it between 22-24' big? Would you believe me on the above sentence when I only keep bichirs for 9yrs? :irked::irked: I wonder...............

You need to go back and re-read my statement! I had an ornate female for 24 yrs, that was between 22-24 inches. I got my first bichir in 1968, and I have had them for 42 yrs. No I don't have any proof that would probably satisfy you, and I don't feel any real need to prove anything to you either! I only come on this forum occasionally when I feel I have something to add to a conversation. I don't come on to brag or lie! I don't come on to say "WOW" or "COOL" just to boost up my number of posts! It is what it is-take it or leave it! But don't question my integrity!:D Johnathan

Hmmm... that smilie on the end saved you. You almost looked like an ass. :D

I don't think he meant anything personal by it, he just wants as accurate of information as he can get, and if there was a way to verify it, it's accuracy wouldn't be in question... I think that's pretty fair.

Hmm... You sound hostile. :( I did not doubt anything you said before, but just want some evident of it. It is someone else who think I was. You did post on a Oldest Bichir thread and yours is the oldest.

I still got a long way to go in keeping bichirs as I believe it will be a achievement to keep a living bichir after 20ys. Hope to be able to have the interest for as long as 42yrs. Maybe you can share some of your experiences in keeping them here. :)

im pretty sure CDM's friend had few 20+ yr old bichirs
